1. Who we are

This website, courses.thebiologybro.com, is TheBiologyBro Academy, the learning side of our parent website TheBiologyBro.com (“we”, “us”, “our”). We decide how and why your personal data is used on it, which makes us its “Data Fiduciary” under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

The privacy of our visitors is of the utmost importance to us. This policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have. You can reach us at contact@thebiologybro.com.

2. What we collect

Information you give us

Account details: your name, username, email address, password (stored in encrypted form) and anything you add to your profile.
Purchase details: what you bought, when, the amount, and the billing details asked for at checkout. Card, UPI and bank details go directly to the payment gateway; we never see or store them in full.
Messages: comments, doubts, feedback and emails you send us.

Information created when you use the website

Learning data: your test attempts, answers, scores, time taken, ranks and progress through courses.
Log files: like most websites, we keep log files. They record internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamps, referring and exit pages and the number of clicks. We use them to analyse trends, run the website, understand how visitors move around it and gather broad demographic information. This information is not linked to anything that identifies you personally.

3. How we use it

To create and run your account and give you access to what you bought.
To run tests, mark them and show your scores, ranks and performance reports.
To process payments and keep the records the law requires.
To answer your doubts, questions and requests.
To keep the website secure and to prevent fraud, abuse and account sharing.
To understand which content helps students and improve it.
To send you emails about your account and purchases. We send news or offers only if you have agreed to receive them, and every such email lets you unsubscribe.

We process your personal data with your consent, which you give by creating an account, making a purchase or contacting us, and for the other lawful purposes allowed under Indian law, such as complying with legal obligations. You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing contact@thebiologybro.com. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide some services, such as access to your account, and it does not affect processing that happened before.

5. Cookies

Cookies are small files that a website or its service provider places on your device through your browser, if you allow it. They let the website remember your preferences, keep you logged in, record which pages you visit and tailor content to your browser, so your next visit works better. We use:

Essential cookies to keep you logged in, remember your cart and keep the website secure.
Analytics cookies from Google Analytics, which tell us how visitors use the website.
Advertising cookies from Google AdSense, described in the next section.

6. Advertising

We show ads through Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Google’s advertising cookies let it and its partners show ads based on those visits.

These ad servers and networks send ads and links directly to your browser and automatically receive your IP address when they do. They may also use cookies, JavaScript or web beacons to measure how well their ads work and to personalise the ads you see. We have no access to or control over the cookies that third-party advertisers use.

We never sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers who help us run the website, and only as much as each one needs:

Our web hosting provider, which stores the website and its data.
Payment gateways, to process your payments.
Google, for Analytics, AdSense and reCAPTCHA.
Email delivery services, to send account and purchase emails.

We may also disclose personal data when the law requires it, for example in response to a valid request from a court or a government authority, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the website.

8. reCAPTCHA

This website is protected by reCAPTCHA, and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.

9. How long we keep your data

Your account and learning data are kept while your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we erase this data unless the law requires us to keep it.
Purchase records are kept for as long as Indian tax and accounting laws require.
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely, so we can recognise and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them for moderation.
Log files are kept only for as long as we need them for security and to run the website.

10. Your rights

Under Indian law, you have the right to:

Get a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we use it.
Have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected and updated.
Have your data erased when it is no longer needed, or when you withdraw your consent.
Withdraw your consent at any time.
Have a grievance about how we handle your data addressed.
Nominate another person to exercise these rights for you if you die or become unable to.

You can see and edit most of your personal information in your profile at any time, except your username. For anything else, email contact@thebiologybro.com and we will respond within the time the law requires. Site administrators can also see and edit the information in user profiles.

11. Students under 18

If you are under 18, please use the website with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian, who gives consent for your personal data to be processed. A parent or guardian who believes their child has given us personal data without consent can email contact@thebiologybro.com, and we will delete it.

12. How we protect your data

We use reasonable security practices to protect your data, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, encrypted passwords and access limited to the people who need it. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal data, we will inform you and the authorities as the law requires.

13. Data stored outside India

Some of our service providers, including Google, may store or process data on servers outside India. When they do, it is handled under their own privacy commitments and in line with Indian law.

14. Links to other websites

This policy covers only this website. Other websites we link to, including our parent website, have their own privacy policies.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and we will tell registered users by email about any significant change.
